Safety Applications

As more motor vehicles are manufactured, crowding the roadways, the world seemingly is getting smaller and concerns for the safety and security of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians steadily increases. Requirements for airbags have migrated from steering wheels to dashboards to doors and now into passenger compartments. It is for this very reason that consumers and government legislation continue to strive for greater traffic safety.

Similarly, electronics in motor vehicles continue to play an important role in providing occupant safety by delivering necessary information about motor vehicle occupants to airbag deployment systems. The inputs from seat belt buckle sensors, seat position sensors, electronic power steering systems, electronic park braking systems, seatbelt pretensioners, steering lock sensors, are all factored to optimize airbag deployment and effectuate occupant safety.

Allegro offers a broad portfolio of sensor ICs (i.e. linears, two-wire unipolar switches and latches) and interface ICs specifically developed for safety critical applications in automobiles.
